I also tried silicone and mixed it with liquid silicone and the texture was ok but not soft enough and kinda sticky. Any ideas? Is it possible to mix silicone and gelatin to find the the soft texture yet strong enough to pull it without tearing it apart?

I am looking in to starting classes in this particular field and I had a few questions pertaining to the “real world.”

What are recommendations and/or suggestions as far as schooling and obtaining knowledge in this field?

Any personal dos or don’ts?

What is it like out in “the field?”
Is job placement plentiful?
Are any jobs relating to this field dependable and consistent (i.e. 9-5 Monday through Friday) or is it more of a contractor scenario (gigs for months at a time and then dry spells)?

I have heard tell that the Special Effects industry is slowly disappearing and jobs are going over seas, is this more rumor then fact?

Is it best to lean more toward the beauty/photography/t.v aspects of this profession rather then special effects and film?

Is it best to have equal amounts of knowledge in all categories? Jack-of-all-Trades?

I do have performance education that I am working on that I do not see “bowing out” of the picture once I delve into this education. Do I need all my focus and attention to be concentrated on this after my schooling in complete, if I intend to make anything of it? Is it possible to make it in this field without hitting promotion head on and constantly? Is it possible to make an enjoyable living out of this education while splitting my energy, time, and love between this and my continuing performance education?

anything to be aware of out in the field?
certain make ups to use or don't use? Certain scenes to get involved in or to not get involved in. Certain Jobs to be aware of? Positives and Negatives?

This is it for now but I am sure I will come across more soon!
Thanks so much for any and all opinions!

Much love and respect

I have never been that sick in my life!! At any rate we are shooting a scene this coming weekend in Las cruces for the farmhouse scene. If you remember this is the one where the daughter of the farmer does battle with the zombies and loses. This will also involove the zombie dog Chigger puppet.I am going to collect his fur today and he should be finished today or tommorow. I will also be doing the final storyboarding for the scene as well. I leave thursday the 30th for Las Cruces. The shooting however is on December 2 and 3. If you can make it, you will have to find a place to stay. I am staying with the farmers at the farmhouse. We have zombies down there already. Stephen Eckles willl be going down and staying in a hotel to help us out and to be a zombie. If you can make it, let me know now so that I know who will be crewing and I will also know how many zombies we have available. This is not short notice for it has been stated before and it is also on our Yahoo group calendar. What we need in Cruces is crew and zombies. Let me know. Well, I am off to go buy fur. Have a great day!

A local woman developed a line of 48 eye glitters that can be used all over the body, cosmetic quality, that STAYS where you put it, is hypoallergenic, won't sweat off, stays 8 hours or more, and doesn't hurt IF you get it in your eye (I tried it out by putting both the adhesive and the glitter RIGHT in my eye).

I have photos up on my site at www.romdeussen.com, under Eye Kandy, and just adore the stuff--so much so that I talked her into letting me work for the company.

We use for photo shoots where we want a flip flopping effect, etc., around our eyes to bring out costumes, etc. It also adheres over latex skin and liquid latex "clothing," which creates a great look as well.

I have make up brushes, but I'm guessing I need some others..but what kind? Would going to an art store and getting a brush set me good enough for this?
Thanks!

I think the people that came up with this are pure genious !! I must say though, as a make-up artist, sometimes it was difficult to create my characters in under 2 minutes then apply it. I found that I preformed better under the high anxiety, some of the stuff I did was the best ever, even after 21 hours of shooting !!! I will post some pics shortly to show my wares !! Just had to rant about what a great contest this is for the independent and the newbie !! Check out the website to see some of last years submissions:

Ok... lots of stuff, but I thought I'd just put it all into one posting, heh.

1) I'm new to the list and I'm pretty much what you would call an amatuer makeup artist. I'm good at bruises and wounds for very close-up work (I belong to a street theatre group so our stuff has to pass super-up-close inspection) and I uploaded a pic of me as a leper (did my own makeup on that one) from last year.

2) Professionaly, I'm an art photographer specializing in nudes. I'm doing a photoshoot series in August with a nude female entitled "Necro," and it will encompass all types of dead body makeup. Some shots will be zombie, other shots 'voodoo zombie'; I want to do an autopsy cut and some other stuff as I come up with it, so there's plently of room to play. It will probably be a multi-day shoot since each makeup style takes a while. Mostly I'll be looking for advice on this list, but if any makeup artist wants to work on this project TFP/CD only (prints & shared copyright, but compensation only for makeup costs) I'll be taking in some limited "guest artists." E-mail me at mn_detective(at)yahoo(dot)com for more details.

3) I want to make a lifecast of a female torso and I need to keep it pretty much on a budget. If I have to I'll use plaster bandages, but I'd rather use paper maché if I can get away with it. Has anyone on this list used paper maché to life cast? What do you use to keep it from sticking to the model. (I know with plaster you use vaseline or baby oil, but it seems like those might keep the underside of the paper maché moist and prevent it from drying solid.) Any help you guys could offer would be great.

Thanks in advance!
I hope that everyone is just really busy and that's why there are no new posts.
I myself am still looking. If anyone knows of anyone who needs anything done, I could really use some work right now.
Maybe your molds need cleaning. How about your dog?
I'm a great conversationalist and pretty inexpensive to boot.
Seriously though, I do some carpentry, as well as, mold making , as well as, props.
I just don't want to have to go back to prostitution right now, but if I have to, I'm pretty good at that too.
Anyway, Good luck to everyone in the New Year.
