  I don't think so. All the hair I've captured with alginate was not the good kind of capture. Ouch!

  If you can deal with a more 'stone' effect, you can lube up all the hair with petroleum jelly. Alginate won't bond to the PJ. Makes a neat head for a graveyard. What a mess!
