Re: cake mixer???
Sun, March 7, 2004 - 4:25 PMI'm more about applying make-up by the stopwatch rather than by the calendar.
Everyone in my class was so eager to get into a lab like ILM where they could inhale the vapors and clean the molds of someone else's designs. Not me.

The cap edge is blended by disolving the vinyl cap with acetone. Can you get vinyl caps anymore? -

fair enough...
Sun, March 7, 2004 - 5:26 PMwhere did you take classes? I have to say I enjoy both aspects of make up; lab and applying, although I agree with you, I would prefer to sculpt the designs myself rather than assist someone else. Have to start somewhere I guess. Yes you can get vinyl caps still,Cinema Secrets has them. I prefer making my own latex caps myself. I don't like the way the make up goes on the vinyl,or how easy it is to pop. -

sticking with vinyl

class of 1994
On the contrary, I like how you can use regular face make-up on the vinyl caps, rather than TPM (castor oil based) or acrylic airbrush mixtures.
Yeah, whenever I hafta use over-the-counter latex Woochies, I coat them with vinyl sealer so i can blend the face make-up over it.
Nobody in the class ever broke a vinyl cap. Maybe the $30 caps we used are different than the current CS type. -

I went to Make Up Designory,2000, and 2004
I try to avoid airbrushing anything...lol. I really hate airbrushes.
I have only ever seen one vinyl cap pop, I just don't like the way the paint goes on em,I do like how the edges melt away though.
Oh well everyone has their preferred methods I guess. Do you apply prosthetics at all (other than caps) or just paint n powder?

Re: sticking with vinyl
Wed, March 17, 2004 - 2:13 PMI haven't worked on a prothetics budget since school. My most recent jobs were wax bullet holes on features where they were using the direcor's sister for make-up until the FX came up.
That's when I left LA.
